Post to Yammer Directly from Google Reader

By in Uncategorized on August 19, 2009

We know that many of our users already utilize Google Reader for viewing a variety of content. So when Google announced their new "Send to:" link sharing feature, we thought it would be great if Yammer users could also use this feature to share content within their networks.

While we are working with Google Reader to become officially supported, we want to give our users the ability to start using the "Send to:" feature immediately. Below you will find the simple step-by-step instructions to set up this integration:

Go to Settings > Send To in Google Reader and under "Don't see your favorite site?" click Create Custom Link.

Then copy and paste the values below into the custom link fields:

Name Yammer
URL https://www.yammer.com/home/bookmarklet?t=${title}&u=${url}
Icon URL
http://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=www.yammer.com

It should look like this:

Googlereader

Click "Save" and you are done.

Now when you are browsing Google Reader, you'll see a "Send To:" option for Yammer at the bottom of each reader entry:

Googlereader1

When you select Yammer, the title and link to the article you have open will automatically be populated into a new Yammer message.

This is just another great tool to easily interact with Yammer, for other powerful tools, check out our various Applications.

  1. I was able to get this working on wordpress.org using the following for the url: https://www.yammer.com/home/bookmarklet?t=${%post_title%}&u=${%post_url%}

    I used the same Icon URL as listed in this post.
